Associate Professor of Philosophy and affiliate at The Institute for Intelligent Systems, The University of Memphis. I work at the intersection of language, cognition, and artificial intelligence. My research spans Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Cognitive Science, and Philosophy of AI. My current research focuses on LLMs and whether syntactic and semantic structure are encoded in the embedding space and play a causal role in generating model outputs. I'm particularly interested in empirical methods (e.g., structural probes, causal interventions, artificial language training) for assessing the interpretability and linguistic competence of LLMs.
I'm teaching myself to use a variety of computational and implementation tools. In terms of CS, I am still very much an amture. I'm interested in improving my knowledge of software and workflows required to run the tests I am interested in. I am currently building up practical workflows (Python, PyTorch, Jupyter, HF) to support that research.
